Theo Kowalski
Research engineer at a particle physics lab. I work on signal processing pipelines for rare-event detection. Writing in spare moments about what radio noise teaches you about everything else.
What I do
I build software that turns noise into evidence. The lab measures faint radio-frequency signals from electrons trapped in a magnetic bottle. My job is to separate the real ones from the false ones, fast enough that the experiment can run all night without help.
The technical stack is mostly Python, with bits of Rust and C++ where speed matters. I'm currently spending a lot of time on Bayesian methods for low-SNR detection, and trying to convince a stubborn old detector that it should give us more usable data.
